the passion of the vartan

SYLVIE VARTAN - PAR AMOUR PAR PITIE
recommended by francelagall- how right you are: this is devastatingly beautiful. i can't listen to or watch anything else but this.

I've always avoided Sylvie Vartan, thinking she didn't release anything worthwhile (she always seems a bit tacky to me, not cool like Françoise or France or even very early Chantal Goya -"mon ange gardien" is essential french girlpop, very highly recommended -), but this song shows how wrong I was.

Great stuff Mordi.

I also recommend Zouzou's early stuff. I was introduced to her stuff by Broadcast (they had this radio program - sort of a podcast - on their website and they included one of Zouzou's songs, which was clearly an influence on them).

i LOVE zouzou too (she has been posted a few times before).

i agree- the lyrics for par amour par pitie are sooooooo sad- i almost cried!

i'd love to hear it, but there's no link on my end.

can you fix this, mordi?

thanks! :)

i love this, i can't understand most of the lyrics but the mood is excellent, i'm getting all sad!
any more sylvie discoveries would be most welcome.

mordi, you might also like 'Ballade pour un sourire' if you like this type of Sylvie.

A million and one thanks, Mordi, for this beautiful song I didn't know before. I went further to check Sylvie Vartan's other songs on youtube and I liked very much "deux mains" (in the same vein than "Par amour par pitie") and another gem, "Irresistiblement" with the divine JamesBond-like female dancers surrounding Miss Vartan. Do you know those videos ? Best regards. Barbarello.

I discovered Chantal Goya through April March actually Francelagall.
She has this song eulogizing all those french girl singers but saying that the greatest of them all is Chantal Goya.
When I heard April March's cover of "mon ange gardien" I almost melted.
I had to get the original.
Then I read a glowing review of a compilation of early Chantal Goya stuff by Stephen Pastel and I didn't hesitate to order a copy.

oh, mordi, thanks for the explanation re: youtube. i think my firewall is blocking the image/link to the video. on my end it just looks like you've forgotten something...lol.

okay, no worries! i'm sorry i won't see the vid, but i'll live.

:)

but lunatic- you won't live!
you can't possibly go on without seeing this clip- have you gone to youtube to watch it instead?

if you do nothing else this year- see this performance- it is breathtaking.

Dear Mordi, you'll never guess what I've just found while searching more info on Sylvie on the net : the missing link between Sylvie and the movie "Valley of the dolls". After being married for almost 20 years to France's poprock idol, Johnny Hallyday, she married an american producer whose name is Tony Scotti and who played the part of Tony Polar in "Valley of the dolls" !!! Thanks to you, I keep watching "Par amour par pitie" video (and am also hypnotized by the very abba-esque "Irresistiblement"). Best regards.
